Postgraduate Certificate in Widening Participation: Launch events

In partnership with the University of Wolverhampton and Aspire to HE, we’re delighted to announce a new, innovative and nationally recognised Masters-level Postgraduate Certificate in Access, Outreach and Social Mobility.

Using a blend of on- and offline delivery, the Certificate will:

  • Deliver a new, sector leading qualification that supports the development needs of middle leaders/aspiring middle leader teachers; WP practitioners in FE/HE or HE access social enterprises/charities; professionals working in CSR/HR/Early Careers/L&D and IAG leads seeking to specialise in HE access.

  • Provide a professional learning environment that promotes networking and the sharing of best practice amongst participants from across the education sector.

  • Provide content and assessments that encourage inclusive, WP-focused learning and teaching and enable participants to be reflective in their current practice.

  • Cover the key topics of contemporary WP policy and UK historical context; effective teaching and learning strategies for a diverse cohort; evaluation and measurable impact; cross-sector best practice; pre and post-recruitment considerations; economics and financial implications, and the future of WP.

Causeway Education & University of Wolverhampton are hosting a series of free, monthly, virtual lunchtime events to support the launch of the PG Cert and provide a light touch CPD opportunity for all those interested in WP. Running from September to December, they comprise varied and relevant topics, speakers, and formats:

Launch event (Friday 10th September, 12-1pm)

Interested in learning more about the new qualification? This launch event features editor of Sunday Mirror & The People, Gemma Aldridge, speaking on the significance of the PG Cert and the innovative ways that her organisation are widening access to HE and Early Careers.

Mental health matters (Tuesday 12th October, 12-1pm)

This session investigates the impact of the pandemic on the well-being of less-privileged young people and how we can address the resulting effect on widening access.

‘Penny-drop’ moments (Tuesday 9th November, 12-1pm)

In this session we will hear from speakers from across the education and Widening Participation sector to discuss the pivotal point at which they realised the importance of WP, and how this impacted their practise, leadership and lives.

A festive finale! (Wednesday 8th December, 12-1pm)

It’s competition time! We ask you to submit solutions to the biggest challenges facing widening access to HE, and let the audience and a panel of diverse, revered judges decide which solutions could prove most powerful…
