This course supports senior leaders to investigate how outstanding careers provision can be employed as a vehicle for wider school/college improvement.

Participants will:

  • Reflect on strategic careers planning, addressing the needs of all students and impact evaluation and apply this to analyse the role careers and careers leadership plays within your institution(s), considering cohort characteristics, local needs and opportunities and whole institution priorities.

  • Create (or enhance) a vision and a strategic careers plan for within your institution/trustwhich meets the needs of all learners.

  • Develop an approach to leadership of careers focused on securing the wider staff buy-in required to deliver effective provision.

  • Develop a robust approach to evaluation and review and use this to scrutinise and reflect on a chosen key element of your strategic careers plan.

The course will be delivered by expert practitioners in careers education, leadership and systems change, and provides a qualification which can be used for entry onto the MA in Education.

  2. The online approach, including live online sessions with time offline for activities, provides maximum opportunity for engaging with expert tutors and high-quality learning materials.

  3. Participants will be able to network and share practice with a peer group of other senior leaders.

  4. Each participant will leave with a detailed plan for using careers focus to address a whole school/college improvement priority specific to their institution.

Assessment and achievement information

This 20-credit master’s qualification (L7) supports the development of strategic leadership skills. Through debate, and analysis you will be supported to develop a deeper understanding of change management and strategic planning. We also equip you to explore opportunities for change and development at a personal level.

Through an identified focus you will plan and justify, leading and evaluating change. By writing a 3000 word report you will identify the synergy between school/college Improvement and careers plans.

How will I be taught?

Online delivery model including 3 full days of learning sessions. These days include extended offline activities so participants will not spend the whole day online.
